About Nursing
Nursing is a profession that encompasses academic knowledge, clinical competence, and core qualities and values to develop the intelligent kindness used to provide care and treatment in a wide variety of settings. It鈥檚 about people, and if you have the desire to help people and transform lives, nursing could be the career for you. Nursing can be fast-paced, diverse and challenging; it is a profession that requires excellent communication skills within different care situations, and there are many specialities you can work in, for example, paediatric, community nursing, mental health, adult nursing, learning disabilities, trauma and surgery.
Considered both an art and science, nursing is highly rewarding and is a profession constantly evolving to address the needs of contemporary society. The art of nursing is the caring relationship through which nurses apply knowledge, skills and judgements in a compassionate manner. The science is underpinned by evidence-based practice and the focus on the whole person, not just a particular health problem, and on individuals during all stages of the life cycle. Nursing includes the promotion of health, the prevention of ill health and the care of the ill, disabled and dying person.
Bangor accepts applications for nursing courses throughout the year, while places are still available. As some pathways do become full we recommend applications are submitted as soon as possible.
