Bangor’s investment in future energy sustainability goes beyond research and the University is training the next generation of world-leading engineers and researchers. Bangor teaches several courses that equip students with these skills from its Electronic Engineering courses in to its Marine Renewable Energy MSc in the School of Oceanography. The University also runs a four-year integrated undergraduate Masters (MEng) in Control and Instrumentation Engineering, which lies at the heart of Nuclear and Renewable power generation.
The University is making a particular contribution to advancing the higher level nuclear skills agenda, preparing the next generation of graduates for the nuclear sector. Bangor has a distinct opportunity to contribute to the nuclear skills agenda as its research advances and new academic capacity becomes available. For example, its partnership with Horizon Nuclear Power has given rise to careers workshops, opportunities for student Interns to visit Horizon’s parent company Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd at Hitachi City in Japan, and placements for Bangor Graduates.
